Partners

Recognising the complexity and cross cutting nature of climate change, we have taken a partnership approach to address this global challenge.

Climate Savers

In 2006, Novo Nordisk became a member of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Climate Savers programme. By increasing efficiency, Climate Savers companies are saving hundreds of millions of dollars, proving again that protecting the climate makes good business sense.

Novo Nordisk’s climate strategy links to this agreement, according to which the company has set an ambitious target for its CO2 emissions from production: To achieve an absolute reduction of 10% by 2014 compared with 2004 emission levels while still growing the business.

Let The Clean Economy Begin is a Climate Savers campaign calling for an ambitious global deal at the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen in December, 2009. Read more on the Clean Economy website and see the Clean Economy video.

Greening energy supply

In May 2007, Novo Nordisk signed a partnership agreement with the Danish energy company DONG Energy. Under the partnership, Novo Nordisk pledges to convert all energy savings realised at its Danish production into the purchase of green electricity from a wind farm in the North Sea. In total, Danish production facilities account for 85% of total emissions of CO2. With the agreement Novo Nordisk has devised a cost-neutral way to significantly achieve reductions in CO2 emissions and at the same time help build the market for renewable energy in Denmark. By 2014 Novo Nordisk's production facilities in Denmark, including the energy-intensive insulin production, will be powered entirely by green electricity as illustrated below.
